Should You Visit the Dentist Before You Travel?

The quote “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” will forever have a new meaning in my mind, which will be “the best laid plans of woman, traveler, with two new knees and an inhaler will often create a commotion.”

I’m still preparing for my international trip, but I took another short vacation in the meantime.

While spending Mother’s Day in Colorado, which was a great event because we also celebrated my grandson’s third birthday, and my daughter’s birthday, whose age I won’t say, we were having breakfast at a wonderful restaurant in a fabulous hotel. But, I had the misfortune of cracking a tooth.

At first, there was no pain… but there was some extra crunch in my shrimp enchiladas. After rubbing my tongue raw, I realized I had cracked the back side of one of my teeth. The pain from my tongue was honestly worse than the tooth, because I couldn’t stop rubbing it like it was the genie’s lamp.

Luckily, I was fortunate to find someone to take me right when I got home.

I wanted to pull the tooth, as I’d had problems with it before (and with my trip coming up, I didn’t want any more problems!)

The dentist recommended a crown, because the roots still looked good. If I am going to get a crown, I want one with rubies and gemstones, sapphires, emeralds, amethysts that glitters in the sun, not some boring white thing plopped on a tooth. But, that’s the one I’ve got, at least for now. The dentist was able to take care of it, and myself and my new crown are jetting off to Italy and France on Monday!

I am so appreciative of this dentist.

And this brings up the matter of health, which I know I’ve mentioned on this blog before.

If you’re going on a long trip, make sure you’re going to the doctor far in advance for medication, testing, and generally clearance that you’re healthy enough to travel. That’s why I have two new knees!

Oh, and by the way… don’t forget to go to the dentist.
