A Blog About Hair

Yep, this is a blog about hair. A travel blog about hair.

I realize a lot of you may not be taking a trip this long. Probably none of you. But I’m a little crazy, and I’m very blessed to be able to do this extended trip I’m taking.

These hair tips can help for any length of trip, though. Whether you’re taking a trip to Europe, the Bahamas, wherever.

Even if you’re going on a short trip, there are things to think about with your hair. For example, what about your color if you dye your hair? Sometimes, pool water can make your color change, or at least look not as vibrant.

In March of 2026, when I decided to plan my whirlwind, 2 New Knees and One Inhaler (I should probably add overweight and diabetic…) trip around the Northern Hemisphere, I loved my hair at the time.

But I started to think about what I’d do in a hot climate like Thailand, Vietnam, and South Africa. What about humid climates, when my hair will get really frizzy? I decided to grow my hair out, so I’d be able to put it up in braids and a ponytail to keep it off my face and my neck.

Could I do braids? No. That’s where I asked my hairstylist, Sandy, for help. (She’s at A Cut Above in Quincy, Illinois and she is fabulous!) Remember: enlist your stylist for help! Or your friend who is good at doing hair. Ask for help now, before you go, so you’re ready when you’re on your trip.

Before and After How to Braid Hair

My logic here: if I decide I don’t want to have long hair at the last minute before my trip, I can always cut it all off. But at least I have the option.

Remember, the whole point is comfortableness on this trip. Go out of your comfort zone in what you do, but not when it comes to hair in your face, or hair on your neck.
